Madurai Must-See’s

This is a private full day tour of Madurai, with a mix of driving and walking. We will pick up from your hotel at 9 am, and cover the following:

  • The famous Meenakshi-Sundareswar Temple complex is literally a city unto itself, covering 65000 square metres. The temple first came into being 2000 years ago, and grew with the contributions of victorious monarchs. It was substantially expanded during the regime of Thirumalai Nayak (1623 - 55 AD)
  • Temple Bazaar - a walk through the meandering streets of the tailor's market, vegetable market, banana market, flower market, and many other specialty shops
  • Thirumalai Nayak Palace - a 17th century fusion of Dravidian and Islamic architectural styles
  • Gandhi Memorial Museum - a 17th century palace converted into a museum housing memorabilia related to Gandhi
  • Alagar Kovil - a 2000 year old temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu

In addition, you can also optionally visit the Thirupurankundram temple dedicated to Lord Muruga (if interested).

When: All days of the week

Duration: Full day (6-8hrs depending on your interests, with a break for lunch).

Cost:

  • INR 1950 per person for 7-10 persons
  • INR 2950 per person for 5-6 persons
  • INR 4250 per person for 3-4 persons
  • INR 5250 per person for 2 persons
  • INR 9500 for a solo traveler

Tour Notes: Please dress modestly and ensure you follow the rules of the temple authorities. Please ask the guide for specific instructions regarding photography in the temple. People of non-Hindu faith are not allowed inside the innermost sanctum of the temple. In the markets, please ask permission if you are photographing people. Some people do not like it, but some will allow it. Please do not attempt to pay or tip people for allowing photography.
